Cher’s daughter is changing gender - from female to male.
Chastity Bono, the offspring of the singer and late husband Sonny Bono, came out as a lesbian almost two decades ago.
Now the 40-year-old - known to family and friends as Chaz - is to make the transition from woman to man, undergoing gender reassignment surgery, her publicist confirmed.
“He is proud of his decision and grateful for the support and respect that has already been shown by loved ones,” said representative Howard Bragman.
“It is Chaz’s hope that his choice to transition will open the hearts and minds of the public regarding this issue, just as his coming out did nearly 20 years ago.”
A statement concluded: “We ask that the media respect Chaz’s privacy during this long process as he will not be doing any interviews at this time.”
In 1998, Chastity wrote about her sexuality, revealing that she “came out” at 18.
Cher said she “flipped out”, banishing Chastity from her New York apartment.
“I’d always had this idea that she would get married and have a family,” Cher said at the time.
The two have since reconciled. A representative for Cher, 63, was unavailable for comment.

People are gonna do what they’re gonna do and each to their own. Religion,sexual orientation,any of it???….WE ARE ALL INDIVIDUALS!! If we were all the same,life would be pretty boring. Is it honestly gonna change the colour of the milk in your tea if this woman has a sex change?? Or if half the world decide to change their sexual orientation or decide to run off with a gang of nudists or change their religion?? Come on! And as for throwin around about loving your fellow man/woman etc…I’d hardly call using words like retarted and the other C word that I bloody hate and some of you saying gays and lesbians are gonna go to hell is in anyway promoting love for anyone. We should be grateful for being here and making the most of things and people that make us happy coz I’m telling you all folks,there are 2 things hard on the heart…..runnin up stairs and runnin down people.
